The Green Bear Program was developed by SEMO-NASV and teaches children how to protect themselves from sexual abuse and what to do if they've been abused. The age-appropriate program has been presented in 50 schools, from pre-K through high school in nine southeast Missouri counties. Green Bear also provides training to teachers, parents, counselors, law enforcement and other adults who work with children. In 2006 alone, the Green Bear Program reached more than 12,000 kids and over 1800 adults.
State funding for the program was abruptly discontinued in January. It was then reinstated in April when an opportunity to apply for unspent dollars from the initial application became available. The agency is grateful to be back in schools and helping to protect children. Thanks to all of those who sent letters and supported the program!
